Blackwing are renowned all over the world for their quality (and that little square eraser on the end of their pencils!). They're a team of writers, artists, musicians, designers and DIYers who think the world is a little bit better when you slow down. Volume 140 is not the 140th edition, Blackwing doesn't work in such a predictable manner. In cooking, there's a magical process (well, it's a chemical reaction, but the taste can be pretty magical) called the Maillard reaction, when food browns. Seared steak, crusted bread, toasted marshmallows. When food becomes brown and delicious, that's the Maillard reaction causing it. Making it GBD, Golden Brown Delicious. And it happens from 140℃. Go watch some Joshua Weissman videos. Well, order your new pencils first, obviously, then go watch some videos while you wait for them.
The pencils are painted silver, like stainless steel. No, we're not going to get drawn into the argument about stainless steel vs carbon steel vs cast iron pans.
